[Action Required] Remove internal links to the G Suite Domain Contact page for your organization

Did you recently get an email like this in your inbox and frantically forward it to your tech people?

“Dear G Suite Administrator,

You are receiving this email because users within your organization may have active links within their documents, websites, scripts, or applications that go to Google’s G Suite Domain Contact page. On August 31, 2020, the Domain Contact page will be removed, since it contains the Admin contact details of Google’s customers. If your users don’t remove internal links to this page in their resources, the links will break as of August 31, 2020, resulting in a “404 Error” code.”

Don’t worry. You’re not the only ones.

Reddit Thread Explodes with Concern Over G Suite Domain Contact Page Email

G Suite Domain Contact Email from Google Is A Mistake?

Put down the brown paper bag and breathe easy. You’re not going to lose your website, or your clients because of it. The email from Google seems to have been a mistake.

Google is in fact getting rid of a Contact page that exists in G Suite because of privacy concerns. The G Suite Contact Page that is going away because it contains the Admin contact details of Google’s customers.

Earlier this month, Google announced that they would be rolling out a, “new integrated email experience”, to GSuite users over the next few weeks. The new and improved G Suite by Google promises to unify contacts, content, tasks, and more.

The current change announced by Google in an early morning email today, will affect users who have the G Suite Contact Page connected to their website’s Contact Us page, for example – which seems to be no one.

If you are, however, using the G Suite Contact Page as the source for your “Contact Us” links, then you will need to change that.

For example, let’s say the contact page included in your sales deck has a hyperlink that says, “Contact Us”, and that link points to your G Suite Contact Page, you will need to change it.

Because the Google Contact Page will be deleted on August 31, 2020, any websites, documents, videos, etc. that are using the url for your Google Contact Page, will need to be updated.

If you are using the G Suite Contact Page as your contact information link and you do not change to another source before August 31st, anyone who clicks on the link that points to the Google Contact Page will receive an error message, or be directed to a 404 error landing page.

If you are not using the G Suite Contact Page for your contact information, then you can ignore all of the hullabaloo and get back to work.

The following is a screenshot of the announcement shared by Google, stating that the email about requiring action on your G Suite Contact Page was sent to many users by mistake.

One Reddit User Ginger347347 shared this from Google Cloud Support: The email refers to the deprecation of an outdated feature we had for you to submit feedback to us about your domain. Since we now have other means for you to submit that feedback (i.e. this support chat) we are removing the feature. We just emailed that in order to inform the customers that were using it, that it will be removed If you didn’t know it existed, you can just disregard the email.
